The Ribbon Weaving Project is a new and interesting event which is now taking place at Bedworth Arts Centre.

This new 2 year project covers Ribbon Weaving in Bedworth in the early 19th Century, its subsequent demise which took place in 1860, and the traumatic effect that it had on the population.  The project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund who funded our grant of £50,000.  John Burton - a well known local historian - will be spearheading the project.

There are going to be many events taking place over the two years, with different groups from Bedworth Arts Centre, as well as local schools showing their talents, whilst looking at the concept of Ribbon Weaving...

... The Family History Group from Bedworth Arts Centre are going to be investigating the lives of people from that era, including, census records...

... All of the Arts Classes are going to be producing many works of art and providing several exhibitions...

... Bedworth Theatre Company, in conjunction with Simon Winterman, are producing a play about the work of ribbon weavers, which local schools are going to be involved in.

In order to increase awareness of the effect Ribbon Weaving had, educational packs are to be produced and given out at local schools, along with exhibitions, lectures and also plays at the Civic Hall in Bedworth.

We are very interested in the local community getting involved in our Ribbon Weaving Project.
